Discover the Village of Queen Charlotte
- Experience the closeness of nature while enjoying all the amenities a small community has to offer. You’ll watch the sun rise or set on Bearskin Bay. Listen to eagle’s call while you sit out on the covered deck for dinner. Or walk to any of the shops, restaurants, pub, grocery or health food store (with real organic food!) marina, float plane base or Visitor’s Centre 5 minutes away. You’re in the heart of Queen Charlotte Daajing Giids, just off the beaten track enough to experience tranquility when you chose.
- Whether you’ve come to learn more about the Haida culture, to enjoy world class bird watching or come seeking adventure; kayaking, fishing or exploring our awe inspiring hiking trails, old growth forests & miles of beaches, Driftwood Cottage in Daajing Giids Village of Queen Charlotte is your perfect home base to visit the entire island. All of Haida Gwaii can easily be explored within a day’s drive. The longest drives are to Masset, Tow Hill and North Beach, under 2 hours away. Tlell is a 40 km drive and Port Clements is 66 km. Rennell Sound, the only access to the west coast by road, is about 40 km on unpaved logging roads.
- Catch the ferry at Skidegate Landing to visit Moresby Island & the community of Sandspit. From the Landing it’s a 20 minute ferry crossing to Moresby Island and another 20 minute drive to Sandspit. The ferry lands at Alliford Bay, which is where Moresby Explorers picks up their Moresby Island or Gwaii Haanas tour guests.
Finding Your Way Here
We’re 5 minutes away from the ferry terminal at Skidegate Landing. Coming into Daajing Giids Queen Charlotte from the direction of the ferry terminal you will pass the hospital on the right side. Just after the hospital, the 1st street on your right is Alder St. You’ll see a sign at the bottom of the hill for “Driftwood Cottage”. Turn right onto Alder. Halfway up the hill, you’ll cross 2nd Ave. We’re the 1st house and driveway, after you cross 2nd, on the right hand corner of the road. You’ll see an orange & cedar shed along the side of the driveway.
